ROCKRIDGE SHOPPING DISTRICT

Anyone who lives in the Rockridge area, or who passes through the Rockridge BART station in Oakland, is sure to notice Market Hall. The developers of Market Hall, siblings Sara, Tony and Peter Wilson, wanted to give the Bay area an alternative to the weekly treks to the supermarket, so they pooled their talents and developed the only European style market place in the Bay area.

Recognizable for its unique architectural design as well as the eight individual food and flower shops that open to the sidewalk, Market Hall is a bustling cornerstone to the unique, active and alluring Rockridge district.

market hall bakery

The aim of the Market Hall bakers is to offer a wide array of house-baked specialties that stem from tradition, but bring a fresh sensibility to the classics.

The morning pastries are second-to-none in the area, with freshly-baked croissants, danish, scones, muffins and buns coming out of the ovens all morning. They also have fresh, steel-cut oatmeal served with a choice of toppings available every day.

If you're not an early riser, line up for the fresh cheese bread in the afternoon -- an addictive and intoxicating blend of cheeses tucked into a chewy knob of dough and baked to bubbling perfection.

THE VILLAGE MARKET, A FIXTURE IN THE UPPER ROCKRIDGE SINCE THE 1950s

The Village Market was established in Oakland in 1952. The Trimble family took ownership of the market in 1974 and proudly served the community up until their retirement in 2006. The Trimbles quickly established high standards for excellence in customer service, cleanliness, product quality, and community involvement. The Village Market is still proudly family-owned today. Jim and Jane’s Trimble’s son, Keith, now works every day to ensure that “The Vill” (as it is known in the neighborhood) always has the best-tasting, highest-quality products to offer to the community that it serves.

At The Village, the focus is on quality. From their well-known customer service to their USDA Prime meats, fine wines and cheeses, freshest produce, baked goods, & flowers, the Village emphasizes locally-sourced organic items.
